India on a medal winning spree at C`wealth Games |
Murali Sreeshankar became the first Indian to win a Long Jump medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old clinched a silver in the Men`s final at the Alexander Stadium with a joint best effort of 8.08 meters. India`s Anees Yahiya finished fifth with a best jump of 7.97 meters. Also, Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, as India trounced Wales 4-1 in their last men`s hockey Pool B game. India`s Sudhir won gold in para powerlifting men`s heavyweight event. The 27-year-old who has an impairment due to the effects of polio thus opened India`s para sports medal account. Sudhir had won a bronze in men`s up to 88 kilograms with the best lift of 214kg at the World Para Powerlifting Asia-Oceania Open Championship in South Korea in June.
