Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been named for the prestigious Dada Sahab Phalke award for his outstanding contribution to the film industry. In a tweet, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar said the legend who entertained and inspired for two generations has been unanimously selected for the award. The Minister said the entire country and the international community is happy over his selection. For someone who entered the film industry 50 years ago with Saat Hindustani, the remarkable thing about Bachchan remains his ability to keep reinventing himself and stay relevant through the decades. Accolades came from across the country. Actor Rajinikanth tweeted, "Congratulations dear @SrBachchanji !!! You richly deserve this commendable honour !!!! #DadaSahebPhalkeAward." The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. It consists of a Swarn Kamal or the Golden Lotus and a cash prize of ten lakh rupees.
