Anthology series on Satyajit RAY |
Inspired by the writings of Satyajit Ray, three contemporary filmmakers created “Ray”, a 4-part anthology series on Netflix that began streaming from June 25th. The first part `Forget Me Not` is about an award-winning computer memory character Ipsit played by Ali Fazal, who can`t remember the particulars of a romantic night. Srijit Mukherji`s film sets the general tone of the series. Written by Siraj Ahmed, this is a relentlessly slick adaptation of “Ray”, both visually and in narrative terms. The second part “Behrupiya”- also directed by Srijit, follows a makeup artist with a peculiar bout of a God complex. Indrashish played by Kay Kay Menon is a clerk with an unhealthy obsession with prosthetics. His grandmother was a make-up supplier for Hollywood studios; when she passes, she leaves him a fortune and her book of tricks. The third film in the series “Hungama Hai Kyon Barsa” is directed by Abhishek Chaubey which is a charming parable on time, transience, and authenticity. It begins with Musafir Ali (Manoj Bajpayee), a celebrated ghazal singer, boarding a train from Bhopal to Delhi. Written by Niren Bhatt, this is a playful, elegantly realized adaptation. The central journey is peppered with flashes into Musafir`s past and psyche. The last in the series is "Spotlight” in which a star named Vik is played by Harshvardhan Kapoor.
