Bollywood`s first mega film with full virtual production
South Indian film superstar Prithviraj on 26th October announced that he is set to feature in a multilingual project touted as India`s first film shot completely in virtual production. Prithviraj took to Twitter to share the first look of the film, which features him as a warrior. Virtual production is an advanced filmmaking technique that Hollywood has deployed. Filmmakers James Cameron, Jon Favreau, and Taika Waititi have explored the technology on Avatar, The LION KING , and the Star Wars` series THE MANDOLIN. This could be the transformation in Bollywood. Director Gokulraj Baskar says he has worked hard to match the Hollywood productions for his Indian audience. He is confident that his film will stand the test of foreign audience against Hollywood productions. Virtual production uses a combination of immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality as well as CGI and game-engine technologies, allowing filmmakers to see their scenes unfold as they are composed and captured on set. Gokulraj is an experienced visual effects artist. After a long study of technologies, he admits that Covid - 19 pandemic compelled him as will others to think about virtual production in India. This would mark a good paradigm shift in Bollywood.
