The Jammu and Kashmir administration in India will soon announce a “new film policy for J&K” within 10 days to ensure the revival of the cinematic era in the region. This announcement was made by Union Territory`s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on 12th April. Addressing a two-day conference on `Tapping tourism potential of Kashmir`, at the International Convention Centre on the banks of Dal Lake, Sinha said the administration aims at exploring new destinations and attract filmmakers back to the Valley. He promised to build better infrastructure to make Kashmir friendly to visiting tourists and members of the industry. The number of tourists arriving in Kashmir since December 2020 has been encouraging and flight operations during the night have ensured more footfall of tourists in the Valley. The new film policy, finalised by the state government after deliberations with stakeholders, entails a road map on bringing the golden era of Kashmir back on the silver screen. Sinha said, “We have been reading and hearing that Kashmir used to be the favourite destination for Bollywood stars and filmmakers in the `60s, `70s and `80s. We as a team will work to bring back the same culture,”. He added, “We are focusing on putting in place a better infrastructure at the new places so that people can enjoy and explore these places hassle-free.
