While audiences across the world saw the release of Yash Raj Films` “Bunty Aur Babli 2” in theatres this weekend, it is Kartik Aryan starrer “Dhamaka” that has hogged the limelight. “Dhamaka” released on Netflix is now the number #1 film in most countries. The film sees Kartik Aaryan in a never-before-seen role, making “Dhamaka” the best choice for him to break free from being type-cast in films like “Pyaar Ka Punchnama”. The story of “Dhamaka” starts off with Kartik Aaryan portraying a beaten, prime-time anchor-turned radio jockey. Using an opportunity that arises in front of him, Kartik Aaryan`s Arjun Pathak knows what he needs to know to regain his self-worth and become the star that he once was. Kartik is convincing as the male lead and tries to earn himself some respect for his expertise. Mrunal Thakur as Kartik Aaryan`s wife, Saumya Mehra is a wasted character as it had the potential to do a lot more and affect Arjun Pathak`s decisions and response to urgency in a much better way. Towards the end, “Dhamaka” does head towards a dip in terms of the storyline becoming very predictable, killing all the suspense that it spent the last hour building. However, introducing a new twist to Arjun Pathak picks up “Dhamaka” making it for a good closing. “Dhamaka” makes up for an interesting watch and in terms of Kartik Aaryan`s career in Bollywood, this might just be a stepping stone for more success, something that does not limit him to the same roles that he had been a part of in the past.
