“Irada,” produced by New York-based Indian American filmmakers Falguni and Chintu Patel, was declared the `Best Film on Environment conservation/Preservation` at the recently concluded National Film Awards in New Delhi. Actress Divya Dutta won the `Best Supporting Actress` for her performance in the thriller. The prestigious annual awards were presented by India`s President Ram Nath Kovind and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani. Irada Entertainment founder and partner Falguni Patel received the `Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation` award from Irani. “Irada,” which also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and New York-born Indian American actor Prashantt Guptha, raises the ecological issues of uranium poisoning, reverse boring, and fertilizer poisoning due to the green revolution and their adverse impact on the people who live in India`s Malwa region, which extends to parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. President Kovind said that this is a special moment for all of you.” He added that cinema is “an expression of Indian soft power and has a transcontinental footprint.” Chirag Patel and Chintu Patel are the co-founders of Amneal Pharmaceuticals LLC, the fifth largest generics drugs firm in the U.S.
