Review of TOOFAAN |
Bollywood enigma with sports continues. After the success of `Bhaag Milkha Bhaag`, filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and actor-producer Farhan Akhtar have teamed up again to tell a talented boxer`s journey. Story idea by Farhan and written by Anjum Rajaballi, TOOFAAN is about a local goon, Aziz Ali, stumbling into the world of boxing and realizing his love for the sport. The stellar role of coach Narayan Prabhu is essayed by Paresh Rawal, who sees the potential in Aziz and decides to groom him. Aziz falls in love with Ananya essayed by Mrunal Thakur, a doctor who helps him leave his shady past behind and look forward to being a champion. Aziz and Ananya`s love story is from the old school and refreshing. Peppered with soulful songs composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, this is a romance that seems natural and believable. However, Mehra and Rajaballi stick to the typical rags-to-champion story, and concentrate heavily on his journey. Without defining other characters and creating a full drama, the two hour forty minutes film is too long. Yet, one must give it to Farhan for the performance. Others have done well too, delivering to the director. Farhan`s hard work shows as he takes a long journey through the film from being a goon to a national champion. Mrunal is natural and endearing. Paresh Rawal is brilliant as usual.
