Review of War film `Kesari` |
The much awaited war drama Kesari released across India on Friday. The famed tale of Battle of Saragarhi fought in 1897 which witnessed 21 soldiers of Sikh regiment stand ground against a mighty army of 10,000 Afghan tribesmen is portrayed beautifully in the film. The Akshay Kumar starrer is impressive in the scale, with top of the class production design, stunt coordination and cinematography. For the soldiers who go into the war with no possibility of surviving, the fight is for freedom and their principles as they stand ground to face the army even after given the option to flee from their British superiors. Akshay Kumar plays a farmer turned soldier Havildar Ishar Singh who leads the regiment at the Saragarhi fort. Parineeti Chopra plays his lady love but has a short role in the war film. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is pleasantly pacifist though the battle scenes become monotonous at times. Overall, Kesari is an above average film and with Akshay breathing life into the leader of the resistance, his fans will really enjoy this film where a few courageous soldiers face daunting adversity.
