Ayushmaan Khurana`s much awaited movie Article 15 released in theatres on Friday. Article 15 is based on the gruesome Badaun rapes in Uttar Pradesh, where two girls were found hanging from the tree. Director Anubhav Sinha through his direction has subtly portrayed the horrors which reside in the country. The film is focussed on caste discrimination and crime attached to it. Anubhav Sinha has sensitively shown the evils which are tearing the society from inside. The film is aggressive in the narrative and does not leave much for interpretation. Ayushmann Khurrana plays police officer Ayan Ranjan who has grown up in different countries, does not approve of the societal discrimination. He is given a case to solve where two young girls were raped and murdered and hung from a tree. In a society where more than a person`s name, it`s their caste which is of relevance, the indifference towards these girls from the other policemen is reflected in the dialogues, where they try to figure out the technicalities of how to bring them down from the tree. Article 15 is hard hitting and might be rough around the edges, but in a world of Bollywood cinema, where chest-thumping and nauseating patriotism is celebrated, it is safe to say Article 15 is a courageous film.
