Review of film C U SOON |
From the trailer of the film C U Soon, which released last week, it was evident that the film was made for the big screen but belonged to a genre which could unfold easily on digital platforms. And considering the restrictions imposed during the pandemic, the concept makes practical sense. Filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan has used the experimental concept of technology to tell a hard-hitting socially relevant story. It starts by introducing UAE-based Jimmy Kurian and Anumol Sebastian, who meet on a dating app and quickly shift their conversations to video calls. When Anu goes missing and police arrest Jimmy it forces his cousin and cyber-security expert Kevin Thomas, to uncover shocking truths about Anu. The three main actors play their parts to perfection. Darshana as the coy Anu brings in an earnestness to her role, which is heightened especially when her past is uncovered. Roshan`s character underlines the panic and tension in the film, and the actor aces those scenes. Fahadh as the brusque and impatient Kevin, who is reluctant to snoop into other`s private lives, brings a sense of calm to the proceedings as the movie shifts to investigative mode in the latter portions. C U Soon is a great example of making innovative content, utilising technology and fine storytelling, at a time when budgetary constraints and physical restrictions are forcing filmmakers to think out-of-the-box.
