Review of film `Game Over` |
A crisp and to the point thriller, Pink and Badla fame actor, Taapsee Pannu`s new film `Game Over` released in theatres on Friday. The film has been made simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The South Indian version are directed by Ashwin Saravanan while the Bollywood version is directed by Anurag Kashyap. In the film, Taapsee plays the character of Swapna, a stay-at-home video game professional. The plot hints at her memory of a physical assault and she gets panic attacks due to this, especially in the dark. Swapna`s struggle to cope with her own trauma in the company of her housekeeper and sole companion Kalamma played by Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, is inescapable. Game Over wastes no time on song and dance or back stories, and Pannu and Vaidyanathan have given terrific performances. Swapna is suffering mental anguish, she is avoiding her concerned family, and she shares a heartwarming bond with Kalamma, Saravanan has weaved his brilliantly minimalist psychological drama which he has co-written with Kavya Ramkumar. There is the very primal level at which the film operates, designed as it is to scare the soul out of the viewer, keeping one constantly on the edge and going against all expectations each time one assumes it to be getting predictable.
