Supreme Court gives Sushant death probe to federal sleuths |
The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into Sushant Singh Rajput`s death. The court also directed the Mumbai Police to hand over evidence collected so far in the case to the CBI and added that the FIR registered in Patna was lawful. The SC said, "In the event, a new case is registered at Mumbai on the same issue, in the fitness of things, it would be appropriate if the latter case too gets investigated by the same agency, on the strength of this Court`s order.” The order was pronounced by a single judge bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and asked the Maharashtra government to cooperate with the probe agency. The court observed that as "both states are making acrimonious allegations of political interference against each other, the legitimacy of the investigation has come under a cloud.” It added, "Such comments, responsible or otherwise, have led to a speculative public discourse which has hogged media limelight. These developments unfortunately have the propensity to delay and misdirect the investigation. In such a situation, there is a reasonable apprehension of truth being a casualty and justice becoming a victim."
