100 million Indians out of poverty in 5 years |
According to research by a reported American think thank, the Bookings Institute, 100 million Indians have been lifted out of absolute poverty in the last 5 years. India has made the most impressive improvements in poverty rankings. India`s absolute poverty has fallen sharply and stands at 6% now. Apparently, there is a good nexus between the quality of democracy and a reduction in poverty. Progressive changes in election manifestos of different political parties reflect it. Henceforth political and public policy focus is likely to shift towards equal opportunities and human dignity (issues arising out of economic and social inequalities). The solution to these issues would also require increasing the number of small individual investors in stock markets. Thus, going forward policies to protect dividends and share prices in favour of small/individual investors too may become part of manifestos.
