200 Indian students evacuated to safety |
The 200 Indian students who were stuck in the University of Houston with Hurricane Harvey flooding it, have been rescued. The Consul-General of India (CG), Houston, Anupam Ray has informed that food was also provided to the students in distress. Anupam Ray informed external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. The students were in dire need of help as they were neck deep in water. The Consulate is being flooded with calls from India about the safety of their relatives in Houston. In case the lines are overwhelmed, a voice mail will get the return call. In fact, the area close to the CGI, Houston itself is flooded Biryani or hot meals are just a call away as volunteers are overcoming difficulties to provide food to the needy as the city is bearing the brunt of Hurricane Harvey. The American Telangana Association (ATA) and AP Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRT) have initiated fund raisers to help victims. Ravi Vemuru, president of APNRT said the collected amount would be given in charity. It has set a target of $ 200,000.
