25 foreign envoys asses Kashmir situation |
Twenty-five foreign envoys kicked-off their two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday with a ride on shikara - a boat famous amongst tourists visiting Dal Lake. Some of the delegation members hail from countries like Germany, France, Canada, Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary. The foreign envoys were apprised by senior officers in Srinagar about the security situation in Kashmir. Afghanistan`s envoy to India Tahir Qadiry wrote on Twitter, "Upon our arrival, we enjoyed a shikara ride on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. Beautiful lake and hospitable people. I bought a beautiful Kashmiri ring from a boat serving as a shop." Interacting with media persons after shikara ride, Tahir Qadiry said, "We saw that schools and shops were open on our way from the airport to the city." This statement, however, is in sharp contrast to schools and colleges being shut in the Valley due to winter vacation. Tahir Qadiry also said that he had always wanted to visiti Kashmir. Another envoy from Mexico said Kashmir is a beautiful place. The envoys` visit comes days after the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) was slapped on former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers - Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
