Akhilesh supports Nitish for PM in 2024 polls |
Fearing a growing might of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition parties are creating alignments. It is also clear thought that so far the Opposition is fragmented and the grand old Indian National Congress Party (INC) wants to somehow retain its position as the largest national Opposition party. But, Bihari strongman Nitish Kumar has yearned the coveted post of the Prime Minister. Nitish has dropped clear hints. After the second debacle of losing India`s largest Uttar Pradesh state to the BJP, it is clear Akhilesh Yadav and his Samajwadi Party know they would not be in a position to stand up to the BJP. Now, Akhilesh has thrown support to Nitish with slogans like…. "UP Plus Bihar, Gayee Modi Sarkar" (With UP & Bihar together, Modi Government would be out). A big hoarding displaying this slogan could be witnessed at the gate of Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow city. An exercise for the formation of non-Congress opposition has been initiated trying to position Nitish Kumar at the as the leader of the Third Front. Akhilesh makes it clear that there would be no alliance with Congress or the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh state for the parliament elections of 2024. Instead, he is forging a third front where parties like Janta Dal United and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) could come together. So far, it is a distant dream. Against the UP-Bihar combine, there are many other regional and state leaders of West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Delhi who feel they are in a better position to create an anti-BJP front.
