Ambedkar remembered for making Indian Constitution |
India on 14th April remembered the chief architect of Indian Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar on his 130th birth anniversary. A jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer, Dr. Ambedkar worked hard throughout his life to end social discrimination against weaker sections of the society. He became the first Law and Justice Minister after Independence and played an important role in drafting the Indian Constitution. Dr. Ambedkar was bestowed with the country`s highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna in 1990 posthumously. Indian President Ram Nath Kovind has greeted fellow Indian citizens on the birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar. He said Dr. Ambedkar charted his unique path in the midst of extreme adversity, and earned commendations for his extraordinary and multi-faceted achievements. He added he was an ardent advocate of human rights, who set up the `Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha` with the aim of improving the socio-economic status of the people of deprived communities of India and for spreading education amongst them. Dr Ambedkar worked to ensure against prejudice on the basis of caste or any other reason, where women and communities subjected to backwardness for centuries would enjoy equity of economic and social rights.
