Another `US visa blow` |
The US government`s latest announcement to delay the so-called "startup" visa could impact Indian entrepreneurs. The visa programme was approved in January by the then Barack Obama administration and was meant to allow foreign entrepreneurs who started companies in the US to live in that country — a longstanding demand of the Silicon Valley. It was supposed to come into effect on July 17. Trump`s ascension in part has been credited to his strong views on immigration as well as his strong rhetoric on H-1B visas. Here are nine things that Donald Trump said about H-1B visa and outsourcing during his campaign days. Wants to hike minimum salary of H-1B visa holders. This may reduce the job opportunity prospects for Indian IT professionals as higher-minimum wages may erode economic benefits of hiring H-1B visa holders for US companies. Threatened to levy 35% tax on companies `outsourcing jobs`. Puru Vashishtha, a Valley-based Indian entrepreneur-investor who studied at Stanford University, said the startup visa would have been great for Indian and Israeli students. "Imagine if Vinod Khosla had to come back to India to work in Infosys. That would have been a big loss for innovation. Unfortunately, it`s already happening now, due to difficulties faced by international students and immigrants to become entrepreneurs.
