Argentine President on India visit |
Argentine President Mauricio Macri is on a state visit to India. He arrived in India on sunday, with first lady Juliana Awada and their daughter. They were received at the airport by Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. The visit marks the celebration of 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Argentina. He visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on sunday which is one of the seven wonders of the world. On monday, on his arrival at the capital, he met the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was formally accorded with the ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Later in the day, he held a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister. India hopes to benefit from Argentine agriculture sector, a strong pillar of local economy, besides tapping natural gas deposits in the Latin American country. Argentina has the world`s second highest shale gas reserves after the USA. Further, the two sides are expected to conclude a slew of deals in a variety of sectors including defence and high-tech. Argentina, which produces Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and has the world`s second highest lithium reserves, is eyeing the Indian market.
