Article 370 & 35(A) has to go: Swamy |
Maintaining its election promise on scrapping of Article 35A and 370 of the Indian Constitution, Modi government is standing by its promise to execute it in a lawful manner. Addressing a press gathering, Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that Articles 35A and 370 of the Indian Constitution can be removed without a vote in the parliament as they are temporary laws. Swamy`s statement came after National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah stated that any attempts made to thwart Jammu and Kashmir`s special status would not be allowed to succeed. While Article 370 gives autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir, Article 35A allows the Himalayan state`s legislature to define permanent residents of the state. Different national parties have different views on this issue.
