Assam asks ASEAN nations for Consulates |
At the ASEAN India Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Singapore on 7 January 2018, Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal exhorted the Indian Diaspora to play a pivotal role in enhancing trade, tourism and investment to his state that has been called the fulcrum in the plan crafted by Prime Minister @NarendraModi to `Act East` as South East Asia becomes a $4.5 trillion Market soon. Sonowal asked the ASEAN countries to start consulates in Guwahati to embolden the connect. He asked the Diaspora and mainstream ASEAN members to participate on 3-4 February 2018 in `Advantage Assam`, name given to the First Global Investor Summit. Earlier, India`s External Affairs Minister @SushmaSwaraj said a new journey had begun on the ancient route that connected India to ASEAN for hundreds of years. Singapore Foreign Minister Dr S Balakrishnan reminded the attendees he is a proud progeny of Indian migrants in his great grand parents.
