BJP to hold corner meetings in Bengal |
Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is pulling out all stops in the state of West Bengal where it is fighting a fierce electoral battle with Chief Minister Mamta Banjerjee`s Trinamool Congress Party (TMC). To boost its election campaign, the BJP is organising “potho sabhas” or small street corner meetings in and around Kolkata from 13th April. These would be in addition to the already planned election rallies, roadshows and other programmes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Potho Sabha on 13th April by addressing them in Dum Dum and Baranagar Assembly constituencies. This is part of the BJP`s strategy towards a massive public outreach campaign in Kolkata. More than 2,000 potho sabhas are likely be organised in over 40 Assembly constituencies in and around Kolkata. The BJP seeks to add a new dimension to its campaign for the remaining four phases of the election by focusing on 40 seats spread across the greater Kolkata region, also called the presidency area. BJP focus in these meetings will be on urban area issues of governance and infrastructure facing the city of Kolkata. Various national and state leaders of the BJP would reach out to the different communities residing in and around Kolkata to share with them the party`s vision for Kolkata in specific and the state in general. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah and BJP president JP Nadda besides other star campaigners are leading the party`s mass contact programmes.
