BSF solution for drone detection |
India`s Border Security Force is in the process of acquiring solutions for the detection of drones and tunnels among other key border challenges. Going with the `Made in India` formula, 11 of the 47 firms in India were shortlisted, of which, eight have been listed for low-cost solutions. This step comes in the wake of increased drone activity along the Indo-Pak border. The Border Security Force (BSF), along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), listed these eight firms. Director General (DG) of BSF Pankaj Singh confirmed that foreign 67 drones had been spotted but only two had been shot down. Several of the drones had been sent across with the purpose of sending in arms and ammunition. Besides dropping weapons, drugs have also been sent from across the border, but that is mostly in Jammu ( Kashmir ) and Punjab. Besides the detection of drones, BSF has an uphill task when it comes to technology that will help in tracking tunnels. On June 27, two drones dropped explosives inside the IAF station in Jammu, injuring two airmen and causing damage to the roof of a building. Investigating agencies suspect the drones had come from across the border.
