Beating Retreat Ceremony 2019 |
The grand celebrations of India`s 70 Republic day came to an end with the centuries old military tradition Beating Retreat. The forces retreat to their bases on the 29th every year, that marks the culmination of the four-day-long Republic Day celebrations. The breathtaking show by the magnificent bands of the different battalions of Army, Navy and Airforce performs at the ceremony. 2016 onwards a mass formation of bands of the Central Armed Police Forces and the Delhi Police also take part in the beating retreat ceremony. It is held at the famous Raisina Hills and Vijay Chowk, flanked by the north and south block of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, towards the end of Rajpath. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and the Chiefs of defence forces attended the ceremony along with other dignitaries. 18 military bands, 15 pipes and drums bands from regimental centres and battalions participated in the ceremony this year. The event came to a close with the ever-popular tune of ``Sare Jahan se Acha``.
