Big losers in Lok Sabha elections |
General Elections 2019 in India surprised many political bigwigs. Stunning political pundits, Bharatiya Janata Party`s Pragya Singh Thakur trounced Congress` Digvijay Singh from Bhopal and K.P. Yadav beat top Congress leader, Jyotiraditya Scindia, from Guna Lok Sabha constituency. Other bigwigs who lost in these elections included - former PM HD Deve Gowda, former Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti, former Delhi CM Sheila Dixit, Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha and Rashtriya Lok Dal supremo Ajit Singh. PM Modi did not win West Bengal but was able to push the mercurial state chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, into a blind corner. If the trend continues, BJP could sweep the Bengal Assembly polls slated for next year. In Uttar Pradesh, the Modi quake uprooted the much-hyped caste-based alliance of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Despite the ``Mahagatbandhan``, the BJP was set to bag nearly 60 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
