Can contest elections if party wants: Priyanka |
Ever since Priyanka Gandhi took the charge of the Congress party`s eastern UP wing, speculations were that she would also contest elections. On wednesday, while on election tour Priyanka said that she is ready to contest if the party wants. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on wednesday minced no words to assert that she was ready to contest the national election "if her party wanted". Responding to the frequently asked question of whether she would like to contest, Priyanka sprang surprise with a more direct: "Why not?" It is the first time that she has said, she is open to fighting the election. She joined politics in January after years in the Congress backrooms, with only a guest role in the party`s campaigns, that too confined to the two Gandhi family constituencies. When she was appointed the Congress`s in-charge of eastern UP, there was speculation that she would contest from Raebareli and Sonia Gandhi, the former Congress president, would retire. No decision has been taken yet, she asserted, with the election just weeks away. She is on election tour to Amethi and Raebareli, traditional bastion of Congress party.
