Cardiff Castle to fly Indian Flag on 70th Ind Day |
For the first time in history, an Indian flag will be unfurled on a public building in UK on 15 August 2017 to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence. Dr. Keshav Singhal MBE, FRCS, Governor of the India Centre in Cardiff run by the local Indian community, told PIO TV that the Cardiff Castle, the seat of power in Wales for centuries, will fly the Indian flag as a rare honour. The community had been working on this for the last 15 years. The Prime Minister of Wales would be the Chief Guest. The flag started its journey from Allahabad from Justice Malviya, grandson of Bharat Ratna Madan Mohan Malviya, and went to Sabarmati Ashram, Jallianwala Baagh, various villages and was finally seen off from Jaipur by 2,500 people. It came to Cardiff August 11. It would be hoisted on Cardiff Castle on 15th August morning with a big crowd of Welsh and Indian people including Ministers, MPs, Assembly members, senior officers from Army, Navy and Air Force and Police. The flag`s journey to UK received extensive coverage in the Indian Press. In UK, the journey of the Indian Flag has caught the imagination of the people and there is a lot of excitement in the public. Singhal, a famous orthopaedic surgeon in the UK, said that the Honourable External Affairs Minister of India Smt Sushma Swaraj is sending a message to be read out on the public occasion.
