Chief Afghan peace negotiator to meet Indian PM & top Advisors |
Bilateral relations between Afghanistan and India have remained strong and friendly over the decades. With Indian prime minister Modi`s vision to bring peace and harmony in the region the chief negotiator of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah arrived in India on Tuesday on a 5-day visit. He is here to exchange views on negotiations between the Afghanistan government and the Taliban at Doha, Qatar, and also strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Afghanistan has been troubled by the Taliban and there has been a constant power tussle between the government and the Taliban. Abdullah, the Chairman of the HCNR is the chief negotiator with the Taliban in the intra-Afghan peace dialogue. Abdullah is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, external affairs minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Abdullah is accompanied by a high-level delegation, who is here on an invitation by the Government of India to discuss the peace efforts and the need for regional consensus and support for the Afghan peace process. During this visit, he is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Institute for Defence Studies & Analyses in the national capital. This is the first visit of Abdullah to India after the formation of a new government in Afghanistan. His visit comes at a time when the Afghanistan government and Taliban are trying to negotiate a deal in order to restore peace in the country. Abdullah had last week visited Pakistan and discussed the Afghan peace process with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pak foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and other Pakistani officials.
