Cong announces its UP seat allotment |
In a unforeseen Political gesture, the Congress on Sunday announced that they will leave seven Lok Sabha seats for the SP, BSP and RLD alliance in the state of Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming general elections. The announcement came after the SP, BSP and RLD alliance announced, to not contest on the seats of Rae Bareli held by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Amethi held by Congress president Rahul Gandhi. UP Congress chief Raj Babbar made the announcement in Lucknow Sunday and said the seats include Mainpuri and Kannauj where from candidature of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Dimple Yadav has already been announced, and Firozabad. Cong.will also not contest the seats where from BSP Chief Mayawati, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav and father-son duo of RLD, Ajit Singh and Jayant Singh will contest. SP, BSP, and RLD have already forged an alliance to take on the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections in the state. SP president Akhilesh Yadav had, however, claimed that the Congress party is with the SP-BSP alliance in UP. Uttar Pradesh will go to polls during all seven phases of the election to be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23.
