Cong launches fresh attack on centre govt. over Rafale |
The Congress on Monday said that the Rafale deal is ""unravelling" faster than the government thought, with issues such as “parallel negotiations” by the PMO and changes in the standard defence procurement coming to the fore. Congress upped the ante on the government after reports claimed that there were major and unprecedented concessions by the Indian government with important provisions for anti corruption penalties and payments mechanism through an escrow account, dropped days before the signing of the agreement between India and France. Senior Congress leader and former finance minister P. Chidambaram said the Rafale deal is unravelling faster than the government thought. Chidambaram pointed out that there was No penalty clause for undue influence, no clause against agency commission, no clause for access to suppliers` accounts. Initially, only enhancing the costs on 36 aircraft instead of 126 aircraft, came to fore, but now it was the revelation that `parallel negotiations` were being carried on by PMO undermining the efforts of the Indian Negotiating Team.
