Congress party in disarray in Punjab state |
It was high drama again in India`s Punjab state as Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from Congress party`s top post. This then triggered a series of resignations of ministers and Congress office-bearers in the state. His resignation prompted former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to say, "I told you so". Congress leadership however has not accepted Sidhu`s resignation and called an emergency meeting of the Punjab Cabinet that was postponed. A group of MLAs went to talk to Sidhu. Sidhu is upset about having limited say in the decisions about the state Cabinet expansion two days ago, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa being made the deputy chief minister. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is visiting Delhi. This has set off speculation that he might meet rival and ruling party BJP bigwigs including Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda. Singh`s media advisor Raveen Thukral said he was in Delhi on a personal visit.
