Congress party resolves Rajasthan State crisis |
The political storm in the Indian state of Rajasthan seems to have favored the Congress Party as on Monday rebel leader Sachin Pilot and Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi met to rescue the Congress from another crisis after the fall of Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh. Sachin Pilot met Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and options were discussed to save the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government should it come to a trust vote in the Rajasthan Assembly when it convenes on August 14. Sources confirmed that Pilot has been in touch with the top Congress leadership and a formula for his return was being worked out. The meeting lasted for about two hours and the Pilot camp was assured that all issues raised by them would be resolved. Subsequently, Pilot withdrew his rebellion on the assurance that his grievances would be “redressed” even though the terms of the peace deal remain to be worked out in detail. The development marks a win for Gehlot who has all along claimed that he has the numbers for a floor test and has been reluctant to accommodate Pilot. His meeting with Rahul and Priyanka was followed by a Congress statement that Pilot had expressed his grievances in detail. It said, “They have had a frank, open, and conclusive discussion. Pilot has committed to working in the interest of Congress and the Congress government in Rajasthan.”
