Cricket: India starts poor against Kiwis |
After a series whitewash in the one day internationals, Indian cricket team would have wanted the three match test series against the New Zealand team to start at a bright note but it was not to be. Hosts New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. India got off to a poor start with Tim Southee removing opener Prithvi Shaw early for 16 and debutant Kyle Jamieson bowling a dream first spell as he sent both Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli packing. India struggled from thereon. Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal then put their foot down and built up a decent partnership, taking India to 79/3 at Lunch. Trent Boult struck soon after the second session resumed when Agarwal top-edged a pull shot to Jamieson. Jamieson`s dream debut continued as he then got Hanuma Vihari to edge one to BJ Watling. Ajinkya Rahane carried on fighting and he reached Tea with 38 runs in the belt, partnered by Rishabh Pant. During the tea break, rain set in and play was called off early as India at 122/5 after the first two sessions. India would now be hoping to put on a respectable total and then their talented bowlers to exploit the seaming overcast conditions.
