DGCA grounds all Boeing 737 Max Aircraft |
India`s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, announced late Tuesday night about it decision to ground all operational Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts with immediate effect. The decision comes in after the tragic crash of Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday in Addis Ababa which killed all 157 people on board. The decision was announced through a series of tweets by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The planes will remain grounded until appropriate modifications and safety measures are undertaken to ensure their safe operations. Putting the safety of the passengers as its top priority, the ministry said that India continue to consult closely with regulators around the world, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers to ensure passenger safety. With this announcement, India has joined the growing list of countries to have temporarily grounded the aircraft. Of the Indian commercial airlines, Spicejet has around 12 Boeing 737 Max 8` planes in its fleet, while Jet Airways has five in the country. Ethiopia, China, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and UK had earlier decided to suspend the Aircraft.However, US aviation officials have said, the 737 Max 8 is airworthy and that it is too early to reach any conclusions or take any action.
