Disgruntled MLA’s of the ruling congress-JD(S) alliance, returned to party |
Bhartiya Janta party’s efforts to topple the government in the Indian state of Karnataka demolished when the MLA’s of the ruling Congress party backtracked on their decision to resign from the government. Opposition party BJP had planned to lure 12-15 congress MLA’s to resign and form the government themselves. In a swift action, the chief minister himself led efforts to win back the disgruntled MLA’s and persuaded them to remain with the government. Both the ruling and opposition parties are trading charges that attempts are being made to poach their MLAS to muster majority in the 230 member house. Janata Dal Secular-Congress coalition tottered yesterday when two independent MLAs left the ruling coalition after seven months of being in power.
