Dussehra celebrated in India |
The festival of Vijaya Dashami and Dussehra is being celebrated today with traditional fervour. This day symbolizes the victory of good over evil, truth over untruth and justice over injustice. In his message, the President of India Ram Math Kovind wished people success, prosperity and happiness. He said, this festival is a celebration of the triumph of truth over untruth and will inspire people to work for the nation building and making a society that cares for the needy and the deprived. In his message, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the festival of Dussehra symbolizes the victory of good over evil and added that we need to constantly quell the demonic forces and foster goodness and harmony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted, in a tweet, the people on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami. Vijayadashami or Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Navratri festival. While in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, the festival commemorates Maa Durga`s victory over the buffalo demon, Mahishasura. Many people conclude the celebrations by taking part in processions to a river or seaside to participate in idol immersion of Goddess Durga. In the north and central India, it signifies that after nine days of worshipping Goddess Durga, Lord Rama fought Ravana on the tenth day and defeated him.
