EC bars prominent leaders from Campaigning |
Cracking whip on leaders for controversial comments during electioneering, the Election Commission on Monday barred four prominent leaders Yogi adityanath, Mayawati, Maneka Gandhi and Azam Khan from campaigning temporarily. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was banned from campaigning for 72 hours while Bahujan Samaj party chief Mayawati was banned for 48 hours starting Tuesday morning for controversial speeches. Angered over ban slapped on her, Mayawati hit out at the Election Commission for imposing a 48-hour banr. Speaking at a press conference, she said, that people will understand the hidden agenda behind EC`s order. The order is unconstitutional and anti- democratic. Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is banned by the EC after he made objectionable remarks against BJP candidate Jaya Prada, fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Rampur against him. BJP leader Maneka Gandhi was also under the poll panel`s lens for having told Muslims to vote for her as they will need her once the Lok Sabha elections are over.
