First Metro train in Sydney from India |
The metro train is assembled in Sri City near Chennai in India. It is the first driverless metro train. Six carriages will be shipped to Sydney. The final fitout will take place at a maintenance depot at Rouse Hill. Transport Minister Andrew Constance said, according to SMH, that people living in Sydney`s northwest would get a train every four minutes during peak periods in each direction, once the line opens up in 2019.The metro coaches are built by the Alstom at its Sri City manufacturing facility, near Tada on Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border. A total of 22 trains consisting six coaches each are to be shipped to Sydney. The company is responsible for the project management, design, supply, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of the rolling stock and signalling systems in Sydney.
