Former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar passes away |
An avid politician, 4 times chief minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar lost the battle of life to cancer on Sunday at his home. He was 63. Giving his life to the public cause the Chief Minister of Goa Parrikar was struggling with cancer since february last year. Mr Parrikar, in recent months, had made public appearances with a tube in his nose, looking very weak. The four-time chief minister had said in January that he "will serve Goa till my last breath." His health had been fluctuating for several days and worsened on Saturday morning and he breathed his last on Sunday evening. Mr Parrikar was first elected to the Goa assembly in 1994. He served as Chief Minister of the state from 2000 to 2005; and 2012 to 2014. From November 2014 till March 2017, he served as the Union Defence Minister. Mr Parrikar returned to Goa in March 2017 as the State Chief Minister. He would always be remembered for his efforts in infrastructure and education development in Goa.
