Former Indian finance minister Jaitley cremated |
India former Finance Minister and Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley was cremated at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi on Sunday with full State honours. Arun Jaitley passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Saturday after a prolonged illness. His son Rohan performed the last rites in the presence of leaders from across the political spectrum and scores of his admirers and party workers. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, BJP veteran LK Advani, party president and Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani and Ravi Shankar Prasad and Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kapil Sibal and others were present at the cremation ground. Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Delhi were also there. Earlier, Arun Jaitley`s body was kept at BJP headquarters in the national capital for his followers to pay their last respects. BJP workers and mourners queued up in large numbers outside the party headquarters since morning to pay their last respects to the 66 year old leader. From there, his mortal remains were carried in a flower-decked gun carriage to the cremation ground.
