GST reduced from 18% to 5% on Haj |
In order to honour the demands of the Haj Committee of India, for a rollback of the indirect tax on the Islamic pilgrimage, the Govt. has reduced GST on Haj from 18% to 5%. The Goods & Service Tax levied on Haj has been reduced from 18 per cent to 5 per cent which will significantly lower the air fare, thus saving Haj pilgrims` around USD 15.8 million this year alone, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced on Monday. For the first time since the independence 2,340 women from India will go on 2019 Haj without Mehram. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new conference hall and passport section at the Haj House in Mumbai.
