Gautam Adani is second richest man in Asia |
According to new data put out by the Hurun India rich list, the wealth of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and his family nearly quadrupled over the past 12 months to a whopping Rs 5.05 trillion or approximately US $ 67 billion. This massive increase in wealth allowed Adani to become Asia`s richest man after Mukesh Ambani, overtaking China`s bottled water king Zhong Shanshan. At Rs 7.18 trillion, Mukesh Ambani retains the richest Indian title for the 10th year running. For the first time, both Adani brothers feature in the top 10 list, with Vinod Shantilal Adani breaking in after his wealth tripled to Rs 1.31 trillion. The Adani group has a combined market capitalisation of Rs 9 trillion. Except Adani Power, all listed companies are valued at more than Rs 1 trillion. Cyrus Poonawalla, whose vaccine manufacturing company Serum Institute of India has supplied nearly 90% of the COVID-19 doses that have been administered in India also saw his family wealth grow by 74% during the past year. Their collective wealth stands at Rs 1.63 trillion, according to the list. Others who make up the top ten are HCL`s Shiv Nadar, Hinduja group`s S.P. Hinduja, ArcelorMittal`s Lakshmi Mittal, Radhakishan Damani of Avenue Supermarket, Aditya Birla Group`s Kumar Mangalam Birla and Zscaler`s Jay Chaudhry. India has achieved the milestone of having over 1,000 individuals with net worth of Rs 1,000 crore, said Hurun India. The IIFL Wealth-Hurun India Rich List 2021 revealed that currently India has 237 billionaires, up 58 compared to last year. Chemicals and Software sectors added the greatest number of new entrants to the list, Pharma is still at number one and has contributed 130 entrants to the list. The youngest in the list is aged 23, three years younger than the youngest last year.
