Govt. measures to contain Swine Flu |
India has recorded an alarming spike in swine flu cases this year with reports of total 6701 cases and 226 deaths have been reported in country till February 3rd. A high level meeting took place with senior officers of the Health Ministry who reviewed the state of preparedness and action taken to deal with H1N1 influenza cases, on wednesday. The human respiratory infection caused by a particular influenza virus H1N1 strain — known as the swine flu — was first recognized in US back in 2009. As it spread across countries within months the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global pandemic in August 2010. Seasonal influenza is a respiratory viral infection with seasonal occurrences every year. Majority of cases have been reported from 11 states and majority of deaths have been reported from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Punjab. The government has deputed a Public Health Team to Rajasthan to assess the situation and assist the States in strengthening response to the increase in cases. States have been advised to involve district collectors in enhancing public awareness and outbreak response.
