Indian government has plans to construct 44 new strategic roads along its border with China and Pakistan. The chinese border touches states of Jammu & kashmir, Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh among others. The border with Pakistan covers Punjab and Rajasthan states in addition to Jammu & Kashmir. According to an annual report of Central Public Works Department, released earlier this month, CPWD has been asked to construct these strategically important roads to ensure quick mobilisation of troops in case of conflict with the neighbours. The nearly 4000-km-long Line of Actual Control between India and China touches areas from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh. The report comes at a time when China is giving priority to projects along the Indian border. The report stated that these 44 strategic roads along the border will be constructed at a cost of nearly 2.97 billion Dollars. The Central Public Works Dept. has been entrusted with construction of these 44 strategically important roads along the Indo-China Border spanning 5 states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
