After the TRIPLE TALAQ bill could not pass through the Rajya Sabha the Govt is all set to RE PROMULGATE the ordinance. Government of India has approved a proposal to re-promulgate the ordinance making instant triple talaq a criminal offence. The ordinance makes all declarations of instant triple talaq void and illegal and the practice a punishable offence with imprisonment of three years. The government had managed to pass the Triple Talaq bill with a provision of bail through the lower house of Indian Parliament - Lok Sabha, but the bill could not be pushed through the upper house of the parliament due to stiff opposition by various opposition parties and ruckus in the house. The current ordinance would have lapsed on Jan 22. The government had a window of 42 days to pass the bill in the parliament session. The house will re-assembles on January 31 for thirteen days for the budget session, ahead of the general elections.
