Gurugram most polluted city in India |
On 18th October 2018, the Haryana city of Gurugram, adjoining India`s capital, New Delhi, was named the worst polluted city in the country. Air Quality Index (AQI) at 372 made it a very poor rank city. Across India, Gurugram, Bhiwadi, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, NOIDA and Faridabad - all reported AQI of very poor level. Gugugram also recorded PM2.5 levels between 160 and 310 micrograms per cubic metre. Cyclonic circulation and decline in wind speed led to such toxic levels, said the state pollution board, according to reports. World Health Organization (WHO) global air pollution database says India has 14 of the 15 mostpolluted cities in the world in terms of PM 2.5 concentrations, the worst being Kanpur. Other Indian cities that registered very high levels of PM2.5 pollutants are Delhi, Patna, Agra, Muzaffarpur, Srinagar, Jaipur, Patiala and Jodhpur, followed by Ali Subah Al-Salem in Kuwait and a few cities in China and Mongolia.
