Hindus, Muslim call for peace as Ayodhya verdict nears
Bharatiya Janata Party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and heads of prominent Muslim religious and social organisations came together on Tuesday to appeal to the people of the country to remain cautious of elements who are engaged in a conspiracy to harm the unity and harmony of the society for their vested interest. The meeting called by the BJP and RSS was attended by Muslim religious and social leaders, academics and intellectuals from across states to reinforce that whatever the verdict on Ayodhya maybe everyone should ensure harmony. The RSS emphasised on India`s “inclusive culture” and the mindset of “nation first”. Two prominent Muslim organisations the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Jamaat-e-Islami Hindi also issued statements urging people to harmoniously accept the Supreme Court Ayodhya verdict. The organisations appealed to the government to ensure law and order and to all citizens to cooperate with the authorities and desist from falling prey to provocation and emotional appeals to violence and arson. The meeting was attended by senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh functionaries Krishna Gopal and the Ram Lal. While minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi represented the BJP government`s minority face. Former union minister Shahnawaz Hussain was also present at the meeting.
