Hung Assembly in Haryana, Shiv Sena wants CM in Maharashtra |
After a neck-and-neck contest in Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party has won a total of 39 seats, taking over the Congress, although the saffron party is still short of halfway mark in the 90-member state assembly. In Maharashtra, BJP-Shiv Sena combine won 161 seats in the 288 member assembly getting a simple majority. But as trends started coming in after the counting of votes and the leads indicated that the Sena is heading for big numbers, the party indicated that it wanted a turn at the Chief Minister`s post. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said it was "time to implement the 50:50 formula". He said that "We reached the formula when Amit Shah came to my house. Now is the time to implement that." Meanwhile in Haryana, Dushyant Chautala-led JJP is expected to play the role of kingmaker. While there has been no official announcement, the JJP can support the BJP to form the next government in Haryana. The BJP, which is six seats short of a majority, is also likely to seek the support of the 6 independents for the formation of government. The Congress has dubbed Haryana assembly election result as "a moral defeat for the BJP" by saying that the Central leadership of the ruling party was clueless about the ground reality in the state.
