Huricane costs huge to Telugus |
For the Telugu community which is reeling under the impact of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, US, the economic loss could be anywhere up to $50,000, which is Rs 35 lakh per household Hurricane.Several houses where most of Telugus live in Greater Houston have been damaged and the property loss is heavy. Since insurance does not cover such calamities, the families are concerned. However, since it is a calamity of huge magnitude, the government is expected to provide some financial assistance to the victims. But no one knows for sure. There are 10,000 Telugu families with a population of at least 50,000 in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, and Bellaire. The average annual income of the families is $75,000. Apart from software engineers, there are many doctors and engineers employed there. If they have to rebuild they lives, they will have to depend on loans as their savings may not be enough.Those who have completed their education and are looking for jobs would be badly in need of financial help. Students would also need help. During their participation in rescue operation, some of the group members came across alligators and snakes on the roads and residential areas.
